This special issue aims to collate a comprehensive collection of physicochemical, biochemical, cell biological, and in vivo investigations that provide novel molecular insights and uncover new therapeutic targets to treat amyloidosis diseases. The proposed special issue will cover the following topics:

  • Biophysical, computational and biochemical approaches to detect and inhibit amyloid aggregation, in vitro and in vivo.
  • Proteostatic balance and amyloid diseases.
  • Crosstalk of immune/nervous systems in amyloid disorders.
  • Role of metals, lipids and other exogenous/endogenous factors in molecular and cellular pathogenic mechanisms of amyloid diseases.
  • Novel biomarkers (exosomes, miRNA or Post Translational Modifications of proteins) in diagnosing and surveillance of neurodegenerative amyloid diseases.
  • Involvement of microbiota-gut-brain axis in neurodegeneration.
  • Contribution of virus infections to neurodegeneration.
  • Environmental and genetic risk factors of amyloid diseases.
  • Does LLPS aid protein aggregation?
  • Biological techniques for studying toxicity and testing new drugs.
  • The role of cross-seeded protein aggregation in mixed pathologies.
